In the NOVELTY study, higher baseline blood eosinophils (EOS) significantly predicted increased exacerbation risks in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Conversely, FeNO showed highly heterogeneous associations, paradoxically linking to a lower overall risk in COPD but increased odds of oral corticosteroid-treated exacerbations in asthma and asthma + COPD.
